Apple Becomes First Company to Hit $4 Trillion Market Cap

On Tuesday, Apple and Microsoft’s stock increased, bringing their combined market capitalization to almost $4 trillion.

Nvidia, the richest company in the world with a market valuation of nearly $4.6 trillion, still has a lead over both businesses. The $4 trillion barrier was previously reached by Microsoft in July.

Microsoft owned the valuation at the time, and Apple closed just below $4 trillion.

When Microsoft announced that it had completed a 27% interest in OpenAI’s for-profit business, its shares rose by around 2%. The company has backed the creator of ChatGPT since 2019.

Apple’s shares have been rising in recent weeks due to the iPhone 17 models, which were released in September, seeming to be selling better than their predecessors. This marks the company’s first $4 trillion milestone.

Over the last three months, Apple’s stock has increased by 25%. On Thursday, it releases its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings. On Wednesday, Microsoft, which has increased by 6% over the last three months, will release its earnings.

In a Monday note, analyst Samik Chatterjee of JPMorgan wrote, “Apple shares are entering the next earnings print with a greater halo of positivity than any time in the past year.” On Monday, he increased his price objective to $290 per share, which is the equivalent of a buy recommendation on the company.

The business also seems to have escaped the worst possible outcomes from the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. With regard to U.S. manufacturing, Apple has maintained a cordial relationship with the government while shifting much of its supply chain to Vietnam and India.

“A rapid shift in product manufacturing for the US market outside of China (India, Vietnam) and the announcement of an increased pace of domestic investment have improved Apple’s positioning in the tariff landscape,” Chatterjee wrote.
